En 1986, cuando el Centro Carter inició sus esfuerzos para combatir el gusano de Guinea, había aproximadamente 3,5 millones de casos. Ahora, "conocemos a todos los que tienen el gusano de Guinea", ha anunciado Carter en la ceremonia de apertura.
